Three open-source design skills aim to fix generic AI-built websites

A post from @bibryam highlights UI UX Pro Max, Taste Skill and OpenDesign, three open-source design add-ons for coding agents.

If you redesign small-business sites with Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, three open-source projects shared by @bibryam on Oct 25 add design rules to the agent you already use. Popularity is not evidence of good UI, so here is what each one actually does.

UI UX Pro Max is a design rulebook the agent searches. From a brief like "landing page for my beauty spa," it generates a design system with a layout pattern, palette, font pairing, anti-patterns and a pre-delivery checklist that covers contrast, focus states and breakpoints. The repo lists 79 searchable styles, 192 product types and 22 stacks. It installs as a Claude Code plugin or through the ui-ux-pro-max-cli npm package, and needs Python 3. A paid tier adds brand and asset work. The README describes its demo footage as "visual inspiration, not a benchmark."

Taste Skill goes further. It picks an art direction, sources credited photos from open archives and checks the page in a real browser at three widths, with up to three fix rounds. The trade-off is cost: its README puts a build at roughly 30 to 45 minutes and a few hundred thousand tokens. It needs Node 22+ and Chrome, Edge or Chromium, and is MIT-licensed.

OpenDesign is a full local workspace under Apache 2.0. It uses DESIGN.md brand files and connects to agents via od mcp install <agent>. Its quickstart requires Node 24 and pnpm, or Docker. It includes Impeccable Design Polish, a skill for auditing and hardening pages that already exist.

We found no independent test showing which of these produces better sites.
