Cursor Unveils Origin, an Agent-Native GitHub Competitor
Cursor's Tomas Reimers announced Origin, a GitHub competitor built for agent workloads with MCP extensibility and automated CI/CD failure resolution.
Tomas Reimers announced Origin, Cursor's long-anticipated GitHub competitor, in a post amplified by swyx on X. Origin is designed to handle version control at the scale and pace that AI agents demand — with built-in merge conflict resolution, automated CI/CD failure agent resolution, and extensibility via API and MCP. The project is not yet in public release; the waitlist is not currently accepting signups.
The announcement reflects growing recognition that GitHub's pull request model — built around human review cycles — struggles when autonomous agents are the primary code contributors. As agentic coding workflows push commit frequency and branch complexity far beyond what human teams generate, version control infrastructure becomes a bottleneck. Origin appears to target that gap directly, positioning itself as a coordination layer built from the ground up for high-frequency, agent-driven development pipelines.
